The Wharfe Trophy
In 2012 Wetherby Golf Club introduced The Wharfe Trophy, a 36 hole Yorkshire Order of Merit, Scratch competition. This event was organised to showcase Wetherby Golf Club to the best amateur players in the County. In the inaugural year the event proved very popular with a 60 strong field attending, this included several County Champions. Wetherby Golf Club is looking to establish this event as a premium competition on the County circuit.
2012 – M P Pearson 71 + 69 = 140
2013 – N R Sweet 71 + 69 = 140
2014 – M P Pearson & A Oates 72 (Joint winners. Competition reduced to 18 holes due to rain)
2015 – A Jones 73 + 68 = 141
2016 – M P Pearson 73 + 71 = 144
This year’s tournament will be held on Friday 11th August 2017.
The winner will receive £500 with the other individual prizes going down in steps to £100, making a total prize fund of £1,700. For the best 36 hole score from a competitor under the age of 18 an additional prize of £100 was introduced in 2015. To qualify for this prize the winner must be under the age of 18 on 1st January 2017.
General Rules for all Yorkshire Order of Merit Championships will apply.
The Championship shall be played in accordance with the Rules of Golf as approved by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club. Local Rules as shall be approved by the Championship Committee of the individual Club hosting a Yorkshire Order of Merit Championship.
All Yorkshire Order of Merit Championships shall be Stroke Play from Scratch over 36 holes, the player returning the lowest aggregate score being the winner. In the event of a tie there will be a play off determined by the Championship Committee of the individual Club hosting the event.
The Championship Committee of the individual Club hosting the Championship shall settle all matters relating to an event.
