However there’s been a century of change since his first visit, a train line through the course has come and gone, and eight new holes have been created since the millennium.

Established in 1910, several of the original holes were ploughed up for crops during the first World War but the course design, with MacKenzie’s input, was mostly unchanged in the post war period.
It was redeveloped over the decades with our forefathers keen to make the most of the land and new technology as it became available, future proofing Wetherby for generations to come.

The major change came at the turn of the century when six new holes were designed next to the River Wharfe on farm land, transforming the lay out and challenge faced by members and visitors alike.

The club has also made a significant investment in creating a new par three 17th hole and the club’s signature par five 18th, which opened in 2018. We now have one of the most thrilling conclusions to a round of golf in Yorkshire.
